MDI attends Mega Stamp show in the Big Apple

October 29, 2008

Tom Pletsch visited the American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) Mega Stamp Show in New York City on October 23 and 24. This is the largest stamp show in the United States, it is held just once each year at Madison Square Garden to showcase the latest United States Postal Service (USPS) Philatelic products. Many of the items that MDI produces for the USPS are on display, and can be purchased at the show. The Mega Show is the main trade show event of the year where the USPS can promote stamp collecting to the public.

Stamp games and puzzles are there to educate kids on history through stamps and teach children about stamp collecting. Computers are also setup with a program where the kids can design their own stamps for fun. Local schools use this show as an opportunity for a fun and educational field trip for the classroom.

Its zip code designation is 10001, and it is the only post office in the city that is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Built in 1912, the building is famous for bearing the inscription, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
