VisionSustainable Social Enterprise

MDI operates as a social enterprise that positively impacts people in the three Minnesota communities we serve:

  • St. Paul
  • Hibbing
  • Grand Rapids

MDI maintains a “triple bottom line” to manage the organization:

  • The Social or Mission Bottom Line supports career and technical development of individuals with disabilities.  MDI provides challenging job opportunities where employees can earn a competitive wage, along with receiving a comprehensive benefits package. They can develop transferable skills, and achieve personal goals for independence and self-sufficiency.
  • The Financial Bottom Line is maintained through stable & diversified competitive contracts with business customers. These contracts include governmental agencies, distributors, Fortune 1000 companies, small businesses and other nonprofit organizations.
  • The Funding Bottom Line is maintained through grants and contributions to support the services and programs of MDI.  Funding sources include government entities, foundations and individuals.

“We think you guys are great. We have been using Simon and Thieu for our maintenance and cleaning since December of 2008. We have been spoiled by the fact that this has become an area that we do not have to worry about or manage. These guys come in each day, do their thing, and do a great job. Our 100+ employees appreciate that all of our areas are kept clean and the facility looks great. I am getting service I can depend on from Minnesota Diversified Industries. Your employees are dedicated to getting the job done well. Hiring individuals with disabilities helps our diversity initiatives and is good for our community.”
