MDI has signed a purchase agreement for a new facility to support business growth and additional employment opportunities for people with and without disabilities in Itasca County. Located in Cohasset, MN, MDI's new 110,000 sq. ft. building will enable MDI to expand its polyethylene plastics manufacturing business, enter new lines of business, and provide a spacious, and efficient facility for employees and operations. MDI will be relocating the majority of its Deer River recycling and environmental services to Cohasset. Other jobs and business lines will be transferred or added, based on business growth strategies.
This project is made possible by a $1,000,000 grant from the Blandin Foundation, a $300,000 grant from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), and MDI's own investment from cash reserves. MDI expects to close on the building in February 2016, with remodeling and move-in efforts in spring, 2016. MDI will maintain a presence in all of its current communities. A ribbon cutting and open house celebration will be announced at a later date for employees, customers, volunteers, and community members to share in this significant milestone.
MDI is a manufacturing organization that provides standard and custom packaging solutions, production services, and environmental services for business-to-business customers. The organization has operated a successful, nonprofit 501(c)(3) social enterprise for over 50 years, providing meaningful job opportunities for people with and without disabilities in an integrated and inclusive business setting, both at MDI and in the community. MDI has facilities in the Twin Cities, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Deer River, and in the near future Cohasset, Minnesota.
