Social Impact

Investing in Stronger Communities

Our commitment to the community extends beyond employment. Through the Cares Council and dedicated giveback programs, we actively support the neighborhoods where our employees live and work — because a stronger community makes a stronger workforce.

MDI Success at Work Scholarship

MDI creates real jobs for people with disabilities. That mission extends beyond our walls. Through the Success at Work Scholarship fund, we help students in our communities prepare for stable careers. So far, we have awarded 97 scholarships totaling more than $164,500.

Who Should Apply

The scholarship is for students aged 18 to 21 who live near an MDI facility. This includes Minneapolis, Hibbing, Grand Rapids, and Cohasset.

You must also meet one of these criteria:

  • Have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a 504 plan.
  • Be pursuing a career in social services, mental health, special education, physical therapy, or speech therapy.

Workforce Ready Initiative

MDI also partners with the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation (GRACF) on the Workforce Ready initiative. This program supports students who plan to work in the Greater Itasca Area. It funds technical training and education that leads directly to local jobs.

How to Apply

GRACF manages the application process. You only need to complete one universal application to be considered for all eligible GRACF scholarships, including MDI’s fund.

Applications are open from January 1 through March 1.
