MDI is a manufacturing organization that provides standard and custom packaging solutions, production services, and environmental services for business-to-business customers. We manufacture corrugated plastic products; a wide variety of totes, trays, boxes rolls and sheets of plastic, used by distribution and warehouse centers, retail, manufacturing and agriculture businesses all over the country. MDI provides production services such as kitting, assembly and contract packaging. In northern Minnesota we offer environmental services including office and facility cleaning, commercial and resident recycling.

MDI – a Social Enterprise 501[c][3] – exists to provide job opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
We achieve this objective through sales of plastic packaging and business services in Minnesota and nationwide. The organization has operated a successful non-profit social enterprise for over 50 years, providing meaningful job opportunities for people with disabilities in an integrated and inclusive business setting, both at MDI and in the community. Our employees earn at least a minimum wage plus benefits. MDI operates in the four communities of Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Deer River and the Twin Cities.

MDI Employment Services:

  • Provides support to employees in our manufacturing operations, including job support and support of other issues that impact a person’s ability to work. These jobs empower individuals to achieve greater self-sufficiency and personal fulfillment through meaningful work.
  • Placement Services provide assistance to people with disabilities to find competitive employment, identifying skills and interests, creating career development plans, and learning new job skills.
  • Day Training and Habilitation (DTH) provides employment opportunities within MDI’s Environmental Services operations in Deer River, MN. These opportunities are funded through waivered services and county funding and allow people with disabilities to receive customized full-day and part-day support in the workplace.
